The 'L' word

It's a BIG word. Huge in fact but is thrown around in many ways. 'Love' is a word that is dished out without meaning. Some people say it to their significant other because they feel obligated or as though they are 'supposed to' or some can say it with more malicious intentions...

You hear the horror stories of women or men with bunny- boiling spouses or even a much more sombre example would be the young Irish girl who refused a marriage proposal to her Turkish boyfriend - her family didn't approve - In the end the rejection resulted in the deaths of Marion Elizabeth Graham, 54, and her friend Kay Dinsmore, 50, both from County Down. Local reports said the teenager claimed he decided to kill the women because Graham was standing in the way of his marriage to her daughter.

These stories of death and sorrow can quash the optimism of a Summer romance. I went to Kusadasi this Summer for a week of fun and frolics with friends  and what scares me is how no matter where you go, getting your heart broken isn't your biggest concern. Unrequited love can be not just the end of a relationship, but the end of lives - and not in the Romeo and Juliet 'star -crossed lovers' sense of the word.

As William Shakespeare once said :“Love is the most beautiful of dreams and the worst of nightmares.”

Harry Potter star Radcliffe finally pictured with girlfriend!

Daniel Radcliffe and his girlfriend Rosanne Coker were photographed strolling hand in hand on the streets of New York City. This is the first time the two have been pictured together and the identity of his squeeze had been kept under wraps for almost a year! As far as Hollywood relationships go it wouldn't be suprising if they were married b now and he had bought her a minature furry dog to celebrate their union.

Radcliffe exclaimed his admiration on Larry King Live : "I've got a girlfriend at the moment, who I am very much in love with. So you know, we'll see where that goes,"

She worked as a production assistant on the set of "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" where the Potter star had what has been described as an instaneous chemistry with her. Rosanne Coker then worked on the last three "Potter" films and even "The Woman in Black," starring Radcliffe which set for release in late 2012.

Click below to see the teaser trailer for 'The Woman in Black' :

A lot of Daniel Radcliffe fans will be unanimously disappointed that their idol is no longer on the market.
The Harry Potter franchise has earned him a vast female fan base.

Summer in the City - A snippet of an 18-year old Carrie Bradshaw.

Candace Bushnell gives us an insight into how our beloved Carrie Bradshaw made it in the Big Apple in her latest addition to the Carrie Diaries - 'Summer and the City'. We find out about how a seventeen year old naive wannabe writer bravely moved to New York City alone. She befriends young siren Samantha and young activist Miranda and ultimately meets social princess Charlotte. Together these four unique young women strive make their mark in 1980's Manhattan. The Ultimate Summer holiday read - A prequel that finally hits the nail on the head.

What is truly is making headlines at the moment is the rumours about who will star in the film adaption of the prequel. Sex and the City is an institution! Women everywhere idolise the four ladies - not just the characters but the actresses who played the roles with such charisma and sassiness.  Sarah Jessica Parker has become a fashion icon. I would give anything to saunter through the closet of Carrie Bradshaw! I would even give up a limb! Fashion is supposed to be fun and experimental...

Kim Cattrall was the combination of sexiness, comedic genius and pure joie de vivre. Also the styling for the hit HBO was always inspiring to me and millions of other young girls out there. Patricia Field was a coveted asset as the premier stylist for the series and the film adaptions of SATC.

The eccentric stylist Patricia Field

Supposedly, younger sister of the infamous Olsen twins- Elizabeth Olsen is a choice for Carrie for the movie prequel as is Miley Cyrus, Blake Lively of Gossip Girl fame could be portraying our beloved Samantha, Miranda may be played by Julia Roberts famed niece - Emma Roberts. And our elegant social princess Charlotte may be brought to life by Disney star Selena Gomez. The press is awash with speculation as to who will be confirmed for the coveted roles, but so far the deal is all up in the air.

I don't know about you guys but those young ladies have some serious shoes to fill or the backlash could murder their futures in Hollywood.

Sarah Jessica Parker & Elizabeth Olsen

''When it comes to relationships, maybe we're all in glass houses, and shouldn't throw stones. Because you can never really know. Some people are settling down, some are settling and some people refuse to settle for anything less than Butterflies...''

- Carrie Bradshaw

Carrie Bradshaw: ''Damn! Why is that girl still bothering me?''

Samantha Jones: ''Honey, you have to let it go. If I worried what every bitch in New York was saying about me, I'd never leave the house.''

Even after six seasons, two films we are still craving more... I loved the first film... It has to be said - The Vogue photoshoot was spectacular. Here is one of the best bridal scenes that brings many of our cobwebbed wedding fantasies to the surface

Is social networking taking over our lives?

What is dragging Ireland down? – Although there is literally over a 100 reasons to choose from in this day and age I think it is because of our online obsession, which raises the question - Are we living vicariously through the internet?

Currently in Ireland the youth culture that has emerged is very dependent on the internet, and hence social networking. Everywhere we look someone is 'tweeting' or 'writing on someone's wall'. Have social networking sites become not just the new media here in Ireland, but the dominant one? Facebook, Myspace, Twitter and Bebo are four sites that have billions of followers. Human contact is no longer the way to go as people converse in a new way which was unheard of in Ireland just a decade ago.

Kip Drordy - Typical case of internet addiction. The rush of online companionship was intense! But the worst of social networking is the redundant boring statuses about who had what for lunch and who wishes to announce publicly via the internet - all their most innermost thoughts, feelings and reflections. But most of all... I would much rather the opinionated irritating status updater than 'THE LOVEBIRDS'. We all know them, and resent them, but not for their mutual love and special bond - but their inability to keep it private?! It is baffling. If your relationship is all rainbows, unicorns and sunshine why constantly reiterate it publicly every hour. It's like wearing a neon sign saying 'I like the attention and am so immensely witty that my explicit lovey-dovey comments are oh so cryptic.' These individuals shouldn't be allowed have access to social networking sites. Why comment eachother 'Good nite babes love u 4life xxxx' when you're evidently in the same room. Bizarre.

Example of your typical PDA couple. Nice.

Mark Zuckerberg - He owns Facebook and is a billionaire. Oh and as you may have noticed he owns you! Don't fight it!

Typical parent/ child internet addiction scenario. They have rehab for that now I hear.

Social Networking is so dangerous!!!! Every time someone has a night out, or a crisis or an opinion it is publicised. And sometimes when someone is behind a keyboard they fail to realise that their light hearted comments and statements and even pictures might convey them in a not-so-flattering light.
Prospective employers can potentially access your details and what was at the time a fun crazy night with your friends, could be the reason why your job application is tossed aside. Conduct and presentation is very important and you don't just put your best foot forward in person, you should do so online too. Social Networking sites show us things we don't necessarily need to see, they can result directly in break-up's, jealousy, bullying, burglary, arguments and invasion of privacy.

Having 500 friends on Facebook might make you feel über-loved but you have to take into account that undoubtedly 'popular' and 'special' as you might feel, half a thousand people can access your life in a manner of speaking. Living vicariously through the internet by expressing your innermost feelings is not just naïve, it's dangerous.

Are you practicing social networking etiquette? It’s trickier than you might think… As Facebook, Twitter and 24- hour internet access blur the lines between business and personal lives, employers and employees are struggling to develop social norms to guide them through the ongoing evolution of communications technology … What if your boss adds you on Facebook? That’s a dilemma. How do you not accept them as a friend? What if you really are friends? Also, there is the eternal dilemma of accepting family on Facebook, parents are disinclined to have the same sense of humour as you or your online associates… not altogether that shocking… Granny might not appreciate the joining of group that are a little on the wild side..

As predicted Granny is appalled!!!!!! Would you want your granny to see the sexy groups you join? Maybe not. I don’t think we need to take measures to the extremes but I think dependency on social networking and pouring your heart out online is taking a risk and the youth of Ireland need to be made aware of this issue – It isn’t going anywhere.
There is now a website that will delete your social networking site for you… it is called the web 2.0 machine – almost 2 million friends have been ‘unfriended’ and 500,000 tweets have been removed since launching.
What is the world coming to? Now you don’t even have to manually take a step back. Liberating or laziness? Debatable really…

And the IFTA goes to...

The 8th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards are a bash worth waiting for. I got all the juicy gossip from our homegrown talent and their Hollywood counterparts. caught up with Pierce Brosnan, Saoirse Ronan, Kim Cattrall, Laura Whitmore, Charlene Mc Kenna and many, many more. The IFTA’s ceremony was a star- studded event and many walked away from the Dublin Convention Centre with statues. It was a learning experience, as I camped on the red carpet it was very interesting to speak to some of the biggest stars in Irish showbiz.

The young Saoirse Ronan picked up the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her
performance in Peter Weir’s ‘The Way Back’. On speaking to Saoirse Ronan about her intensive martial arts training, she said how tough her strict training regime was -but in a good way : “ the training from ‘Hanna’ will stand to me. It was really tough. For my new film ‘Violet and Daisy’ it was mostly shooting a gun! It is very important to stay grounded in the Film Industry and appreciate every opportunity that comes to you.’’

Pierce Brosnan and Amy Huberman were also among the winners at the IFTA’s. The lovable Frank Kelly who plays the infamous ‘Father Jack’ in Irish comedy ‘Father Ted was notably in attendance with his wife by his side. I guess it is no surprise that the RTÉ Guide Best TV Moment award went to the Rubberbandits, 'Horse Outside'. Over Christmas you could not grace the inside of an establishment without that tune blaring through the airwaves.Colin Farrell collected the Best Actor award for his performance in Neil Jordan's 'Ondine'. 'The Clinic' claimed the award for Best Drama Series/Soap, with 'Five Minutes of Heaven' picking up the award for Best Single Drama. Aidan Quinn was presented with the award for Best Supporting Actor for 'The Eclipse'. Newcomer the stunning Dervla Kirwan snatched up the award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 'Ondine'.The enigmatic actor Stephen Rea was named Best Actor in a Supporting Role for 'Father & Son' and Sarah Bolger claimed the award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 'The Tudors'.
Producer Morgan O'Sullivan received the outstanding contribution to the Industry award. and rightly so! Credit where it is seriously due, seeing as he produced the likes of ‘Braveheart’ and ‘Angelas Ashes’ the man should get two of those statues!'Rewind' actress Amy Huberman received the Lead Actress award. She looked stunning in a peach floor- length gown that complemented her glowing complexion. Most definitely a star on the rise.

Martin McCann was named ‘Lead Actor’ for his performance in 'Swansong - Story of Occi Byrne'.
Brendan Gleeson and his sons Domhnall and Brian were together nominated for numerous IFTA awards, so obviously serious talent runs in the family! There were many TV stars parading the red carpet in style, such as ruthless business man Bill Cullen and his wife Jackie. The advice Bill Cullen gave was : ''To do well in your field - you have to be original, committed, inventive and ultimately work hard - because it is a tough world out there.'' I don’t know about anyone else - but that most certainly is great advice I will try and follow.

Raw actress Charlene Mc Kenna won an IFTA for Best Actress in 2009 and was nominated for the same category this year. The stunning starlet was wearing a slinky high necked black number. The dresses at the ceremony were very interesting .. Anna Daly looked stunning, gorgeous dress, always elegantly dressed, she never gets it wrong, Elaine Crowley looked fabulous.
Charlene Mckenna is the stand out star of all these women, she has the most pretty face I have seen in a long time. Like an Irish Audrey Hepburn, she epitomises pure class. She expressed her excitement to be at the IFTA’s and how it was strange to be nominated this year in the same category as her co-stars on ‘Raw’: “I am very excited about tonights events. The venue is so modern and beautiful. My shoes will definitely be kicked off at the after party! Myself and Ruth and Amy are all nominated in the same category but they are great friends of mine. We are all texting and joking and having serious banter about who could scoop the award. But I have to say, they are both so talented and the media are making out that we are very competitive with each other but that is not the case.” MTV presenter Laura Whitmore flew over from her post in London for the ceremony and gushed that “the Irish media are some of the most welcoming in the world. It is such an honour to be at such an amazing ceremony. I hadn’t realised how much I missed it.”

When I questioned Kim Cattrall about her Valentines Day plans she disclosed her Valentine's plans: “I’m spending Valentine’s with my cat!”
Also the ‘Sex and the City’ beauty dished out about her relationship with her ‘Sex and The City’ co-stars in saying: “We don’t see each other that much but we send eachother texts like How are you? I’m moving! I’m having a baby! Happy Thanksgiving... that sort
of thing.”

Daithí O Sé was on a serious love buzz at the IFTA’s projecting the air of a man seriously in love with his girlfriend from America - a former Rose of Tralee. It made him all the more charming. He exclaimed : “Anyone who knows me knows I have met that very special lady. I have loads of special plans for Valentines Day. But I can’t tell you them! I think romance is a very important. It’s a big part of my life, If you love someone you cannot be afraid to tell them. Romance is a very positive thing.”
Any red-blooded female will admit that loved- up Daithí is very endearing and proves that love is really out there. All in all, it was a night of epic proportions. The Dublin Convention Centre was a phenomenal venue for such a special event. And I must say, all I am left wondering is how in God’s name Kim Cattrall is spending Valentine’s Day alone with her cat! Well, after all this excitement I think I shall hibernate until next year!
