Dressing for work and play: My looks to date on lookbook.nu!

'Something Old, Something New'

This is the outfit I wore to the Leopardstown races. I was really excited to dress up ladylike. I teamed a white backless lace vintage dress, with vintage gloves a statement Sonia Rykiel black and gold jacket, detailed headpiece and caved platform heels. I won a whole 12 euro at the races! I placed a bet on 'King of Dudes'. I had a great time as the Saw Doctors played on site and my winnings bought me an icy mojito! Most of the style at the event was clinging to the last threads of Summer.

'Structured in the Summertime'

I like the pop of colour with the 'New Look' wedge platforms combined with the slinky texture of the maxi also from New Look. The cropped textured studded jacket is very versatile. I wore the jacket to the IFTA's in 2011 when I was working the red carpet. The statement piece from 'Ruby Rouge boutique' in Gorey has served me well and has been a wardrobe staple for important events.

Festival Frenzy '12

It is a very laid back look - miinto.ie lanyard, the ankle wellies are Vivienne Westwood, I love them. I wore Topshop print leggings and a Rihanna Tee to add to the colorful theme. I slicked my hair in a high ponytail (you can emulate this look by checking out Hairspray hair extensions) I threw on my trusty 1980's vintage levis jacket from 'Fresh' in Temple Bar, Dublin. I also wore chunky hoochie faux gold earrings to add a Miami beach dynamic to the look. Then I was good to go! A good, comfortable work look even in the rain.

I was covering the Strawberry Fest for RTE 2XM & also for 'Lipstick Gossip'. My blog was sponsored by online fashion giant miinto.ie for the Strawberry Fest. Interviews from Bressie, Mikill Pane,  X Factor's Amelia Lily and finalist Marcus Collins, Maverick Sabre, Rebecca Creighton and many more can be found online. It was pretty cool to have them all in my hometown!

'Pacha Fever in Ibiza'

This is the outfit I wore to 'F**k me I'm Famous' by David Guetta in Pacha Ibiza. It was a very fun summery look teamed with florescent bangles a floral headband and killer pink spiked caved platform wedges. Myself and my sisters were in the VIP area trying (but failing) to seem nonchalant with David Guetta meters away. For a nerdy looking guy he is a groundbreaking DJ the atmosphere was electric in his club. Ibiza is literally his playground.

Electric Picnic '12

I was covering Electric Picnic as press and I wanted to feel comfy yet festival ready! There is nothing as handy as a tailored camo jacket they are so versatile. The Hunter wellies and socks also fared me well throughout the weekend as I felt confident doing interviews. You can listen back to the 'Electric Picnic show' on 'In Colour' on RTE 2XM on the RTE Radio player.

Why be so negative?

Everyone isn't mad about Winter but layering is fun! And it's a chance to be eccentric. So my winter slogan is " Why be so negative? " ;)

I'm wearing a 1980s Levi's studded and spiked customised denim jacket with electric navy blue disco pants. Layering on top white long tank top and flowing grey studded vest. Jeffrey Campbell platform wedges with silver detailing at the rear. It is a look that can transcend from night to day with an edge - just add a red lip, winged liner and poker straight locks to finish the look. I wore this outfit to an interview I was doing in the Merrion Hotel with Assets model Sean Mc Connon.
Photo taken by Faye Bollard.

'Pursuit of happiness'

I was heading to Dublin for a massage at The Bodywise Clinic that I would be reviewing for Lipstick Gossip - I dressed for the occasion in a white detachable Collar from topshop, monochromatic skull and rose print leggings, a black structured collar free blouse, black fleeced leather jacket, faux gold chains and a vintage head scarf tied in a 'washer-woman' style framing the face but also adding a twist accented by the leather gold studded ankle-length cowboy boots. My fleeced leather jacket I picked up in a Billabong sample sale in Times Square when I visited NYC on my 22nd birthday.

'Retro Revival'

A casual shopping outfit! I wore rounded nude sunnies framed by vintage headscarf, ankle length black tank maxi dress with crucifix high waist black leather belt from Urban Outfitters with my staple oversized vintage denim levis jacket embellished by spiked shoulder detail - teamed with orange leather satchel and threaded bracelets to finish the look. My platform sandals are from Urban Outfitters.

Well that shows off all my looks on Lookbook.nu to date. As a fashion journalist and radio reporter I have great fun playing dress- up for work events or simply letting my eccentric flag fly! My style tends to be quite playful. I am not a slave to trends and I am not afraid of getting it wrong (which we all do) because you have to have fun with your clothes and accessories mixing and matching items to truly embrace the true accent of your personal style. Rules are made to be broken!

Interview and photoshoot @ The Merrion!

Last week I interviewed Assets male model Sean Mc Connon for a tell-all interview for fashion.ie. We also had a photoshoot in the Merrion Hotel shot by photographer Faye Bollard. Faye has an innovative eye and her works have appeared in many magazines from Hotpress to Prudence, to elegant bridal publications. Her blog 'The Style Allotment' showcases her both her blogging and photography skills. Sean Mc Connon is a male model with great insight in to what it's like in the circuit in Ireland. He has great style and a vivacious, infectious persona. The three of us sat down to afternoon tea in the Merrion Hotel and had an interesting post- interview conversation about modeling in Ireland and what it takes to be successful in this fickle world of fame. We had candid conversations about the scandalous goings-on which I can't disclose just yet but the interview and photoshoot with Sean Mc Connon will be aired exclusively on fashion.ie very soon.

The photoshoot on the grounds was very scenic as the courtyard in the Merrion is covered in old stone and Autumn bushes and plants. It had a very secret garden vibe even though hotel residents could see exactly what shenanigans were going on below them. American TV host Conan O' Brien among them!

Faye Bollard put an article up on her personal blog 'The Style Allotment' showcasing my personal wardrobe choice that day in a snapshot she took.

I called the look 'Why be so negative?' on lookbook.nu because so many resent winter wear when layering can be fun and the cold isn't so bad when you have the right attire.

You can 'HYPE' my look called 'Why be so negative?' on Lookbook.nu by clicking here!

As soon as the interview is live on fashion.ie I will post a link here :)

Hello Cobalt! I featured in Stellar wearing Winters hottest shade!

I featured in the Stellar Magazine modeling for a street style shoot! It was for the ultimate  A/W trend cobalt blue. I toughened up the look with a military jacket & killer platform Jeffrey Campbells with silver detailing at the back!

I also wore topshop studded socks which I love with everything from chunky wedges to my vintage spanish brogues. I donned a leather mini and flashed my legs! My necklaces and chain ring I picked up in River Island.

I am a HUGE fan of Stellar magazine so I was and still am super excited. For a girl that is 5''3 I felt 6 feet tall! It was cool not to be behind the scenes for a change. It was so exciting. Lili Forberg took my picture! It was a bit of an out-of-body experience, I think I went into my nervous chatty at the speed of sound mode throughout the shoot!

I got to meet Corina Gaffey the head honcho of styling in both Stellar and Kiss. She has a very unique eye and never plays it safe, which I believe many Irish stylists draw inspiration from.

I grew up reading Kiss as a tween, but as my hunger for fashion ensued, and I evolved from dungarees to playsuits, I began worshipping Stellar. I love that Ireland has such a great glossy mag. As a stylist and journalist I have great respect for both publications, Kiss & Stellar as I believe they contribute something special to young women in Ireland.

The Stellar November issue is out in shops today! ♥

I recently purchased an amazing cobalt bowler hat which thrusts tow seasonal trends into one! I pinned, curled and styled my hair to make it look shorter to finish the look.

These were my nails I had the day of the shoot! They changed colour when exposed to coldness.

This is what happened when my hands were very chilly. Weird huh?

And don't forget to rock the cobalt blue trend this Winter.

Can you learn from Celebrities Life experiences?

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson grew up listening to gospel music. She performed in the choir from the age of 9 to 17. Her parents were strict Pastors and would send her to Christian camps every Summer. She looked up to her big sister. When Katheryn sang and danced, it gave her a chance to let go and truly be herself. Katheryn had a tough relationship with her parents, they wouldn’t let her listen to music she liked or meet boys. Katheryn blossomed into the starlet we know as ‘Katy Perry.’

Her parents were very disappointed when she sang ‘I Kissed a Girl’ wearing skimpy costumes on stage, and especially when she married bad-boy Russell Brand.
When Katy and Russell split her minister parents told their packed church her divorce was a gift from God. (I think they might be Team Katy!) Their hearts were probably in the right place, sometimes parents can be overprotective and stop you doing things you want to do. That is hard but you always have to remember that it is because they care. And even Katy Perry went through that phase! She has now become the most famous glam star on the planet and has inspired millions of young girls. Katy has taught us that if you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.

Face of Chanel or Face of Bullying?

You have been in the limelight from a young age, been the face of Chanel and become famous worldwide. You star in 8 successful films as a character and when you decide to give acting a break to go back to school, you probably think everyone is bit old for bullying. This is not the case for Emma Watson. Classmates would taunt her by chanting ‘3 points for Gryffindor’ everytime she answered a question in her classes at Brown University. Bullies joked the actress had a lot in common with her character Hermione Granger in Harry Potter. After a few months Watson decided to leave Brown for a while and get back to being an Actress.

Bullying is no laughing matter and comes in all shape and forms!
Everyone loves a laugh and a mess around but if you repeat something over and over to someone it can get very wearing and slowly hurts someones feelings. It is so important in life to not let bullies and mean comments get under your skin. Always be yourself and don’t let anyone get inside your head. If someone is being a bully, chances are it’s jealousy, or they simply have self-esteem issues. At the end of the day, never let anyone get you down.

When we try out a new look whether it is a new hairstyle or even some new clothes that are a bit OTT it can give us swag and confidence. It’s nice to stand out from the crowd. When Miley Cyrus took to twitter to show off her new hairdo - All hell broke loose! Internet ‘trolls’ are people on the internet whose mission it is to target famous people and wind them up. And they can reduce the strongest person to tears. The Disney star is growing up and wanted to change her look, but a lot of her twitter followers sent her cruel and horrible messages about her new blonde cropped ‘do. Her Dad stuck up for her telling her to ignore the bullies and fiancé Liam Hemsworth loves her new hair. But most of all Miley herself feels amazing and embraces her edgy new look. She tweeted to silence the haters: 'Self love is the greatest of all flatterers..' Imagine how tough it would be to take a risk and go for a dramatic chop only to have millions of people judge you and be harsh about whether you can pull it off or not. What is very inspiring about Miley is that she doesn’t let anyone influence her look. She’s original.

The greatest accessory in this life is confidence, and it goes with everything.

What made Summer blockbuster ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ so amazing was the fact that the romance between the two leading actors was not just for the big screen, but for real life too! The new film has been described as a ‘Spiderman film for the Twilight generation’ because our hero has not only supernatural abilities he also has a romance on and off screen that tugs on our heartstrings. Since filming a year ago Emma Stone knew she had feelings for her co-star. When asked why she loved the role of Gwen Stacy she says that they experience so much together and they learn so much from one another and with Andrew it just made sense. It is rumored that her character will be in one more installment of the trilogy. It seems to be a regular thing in Hollywood that co-stars fall head over heels for each other, but these romances in fact aren’t as perfect as you may think. Movies can give us an idea of what ‘romance’ and ‘true love’ looks like but it’s not reality. In truth our love interest won’t glitter in the sun and profess their eternal love, or fly off buildings spawning a web to catch us in if we fall. It’s important to separate fantasy from reality, In saying that a girl can always dream! You should still have high expectations, just don’t attack a boy with glitter hair spray because Edward Cullen has inspired you. Though it may be tempting..

Justin Bieber doesn’t want his GF Selena Gomez to be bezzies with her longtime Disney pal Demi Lovato anymore. He thinks that Demi hasn’t been a good friend to Selena and he wants her to be happy. Selena has said she has cut Demi slack and tried to support her as she has been going through a very tough time. But they have drifted apart.
Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez are best friends these days, they have been close for years, but lately they are inseparable:

“She’s so trustworthy, never judges you and knows how to listen,” Taylor, 22, said. “We’ve been friends for four years and she has been through so much with me that I can say we’re almost sisters.”

The truth is that you can't be BFF's with everybody! People change and grow up and that can be really tough. You’ll make new friends throughout your life. It can feel really sad when a friendship comes to a close. But I swear that the most important friendship you have in this life is with yourself. Friends can come and go, but there are really special ones you will meet along the way.

All kinds of everything!

My fabulous mother (as pictured above) made her TV debut on RTE hidden camera show 'The Fear'. My family found this very amusing as because she was an innocent bystander in the shot. She did not sign release papers so her face was blurred out. Basically she looked like she was creeping it real in the Marks and Spencers cafe window on Grafton St! Very funny stuff. the show in question was pretty great - especially the Hilary Rose nun scene. Georgia Salpa was gyrating and Jennifer Maguire was being her usual comic self. I will definitely be tuned in next week to embrace the cringe although it is tough to fill the void left by the absence of Republic of Telly.

Have you guys ever tried oxygen bars at your freshers week or at a festival? I found they perked me up when I was working at Electric Picnic. The direct hit of oxygen can help relieve hangovers and enhance your sense of vitality. It is a win win situation as they come in every flavour from cherry to eucalyptus.

I received this super-cute mustache bracelet as a gift from River Island PR. I got a sneak peek at their amazing A/W collection and was delighted to depart with a part of it dangling from my wrist. I have always wanted a handlebar mustache! ;)

Jewellery has been very unique this season and this piece of hand-wear is an example of that. We are butching up our look with spikes, studs and skeletal statement jewelry because not only is it bang on trend but fun and tran-seasonal. Knuckle-dusters have been brought to a whole new level! Would you dare to wear this trend?

I went to the muckfest that was the ploughing match. It was okay it wasn't just tractors. It had alcohol too! ;) I picked up a woolly hat and scarf and me and the girls wandered around eating belgian chocolate with marshmallows. Yum! It was a great day.

I know a lot of people feel like flowers are just for Summer but I have been loving Rockabilly hair pin curl fringe with flowers lately. It brings some colour and retro-inspiration to the winter months!

I got a Marilyn Monroe type look from make up artist in Mac. The lipstick in the top left hand picture is called 'Ruby Woo'. I have been loving crackled nails even though many are past it. Nail DIY jobs are so much fun. I got my blue bowler hat & retro inspired MTV woolly jumper in H & M. Keep your eyes peeled for the Lana Del Rey for H & M Range which has also hit stores nationwide.
